Running on Empty

This afternoon, I was walking out to the playground with some of my students (a second half hour long recess is just a little luxury I allow myself during summer school.) Most of the kids ran off immediately, but two stuck behind to stroll on out with me. The little boy, Russell, looked up and said,"I don't want to run. Running takes up too much energy."

Shreya agreed with Russell: "I don't want to run either. Running makes my shoes untie really easily."

I started to say something about being lazy, but then I changed my mind. "Yeah - I always have a good excuse, too."
