Really?
Last year, I passed a dubious milestone when one of my students' mom was younger than I was. Today, I beat that by a mile.
Picture this: It's the first day of summer school, and the kids and their parents are all milling around trying to find the right classroom. I have my class settled on the carpet, and we are waiting for a few stragglers to find us. In walks a woman with her young (first grade) daughter. I smile and stand up and ask for her name. Her mother replies, and I check my list.
"I don't see her here. She must be next door."
The woman shakes her head. "No, she is not on that list either."
I re-check the list, still not finding the name. "Well, you need to go to the office and they can find the right class for you."
I look up at the woman as she begins to turn away, and that is when the horror of realization passes on both of our faces and she rushes out the door. I stand for a minute with my mouth open, and then turn back to my class.
When did I become old enough to have the children of people I WENT TO JUNIOR HIGH with be in my class????
