Forget Me Not

One of the neat things about being a teacher (yes, I did just use the word neat) is when former students come back to say hi when they are all grown up - even if it makes you feel old. Teaching where I teach, I know I will probably not ever have that happen to me. Most of our students are from India, China, Japan, Korea, and Israel, and only for a year or two while their dads work for a technology company. My first year here I taught the ELD class, so pretty much none of them spoke English, and they weren't going to stay too long. In fact, from that class I think there are only about 2 students who still go to this school.

Anyway, this morning, as shadows of a blue mood loomed over me, I pulled a letter out of my box. It was from a student in my class that first year. He moved away the year after I had him, and I never saw him again. (I had him in first, and he would be in 5th now.) He dropped me a line to let me know how he was doing back in Israel, that he has a new baby brother, and is doing well. Definitely made me smile. Unfortunately, it was dropped off, so I have no return address to send a response to.

Either way, it's nice to be remembered.
